Botanic Gardens and Chatfield State Park

Today we checked out one part of the Botanic Gardens.

I'm not sure what kind of tree this flower was on.

This is a Colorado Columbine or Blue Columbine--the state flower.

We've been having lots of rain and so many of the creeks and rivers are starting to flood their banks.  I don't think this creek normally has much water in it since they have not put a bridge in. When we saw this we were glad that the trail continued on around a pond.  However, we ended up having to walk through about 2 inches of water for a short ways around the pond--if it hadn't been at the very end we might have just turned back, but the kids were getting grumpy and it was the difference between 5 minutes and 30-40 minutes of walking.

Kyla was excited to see the baby geese--although a little disappointed that she couldn't get her camera out in time to get a picture.

After the Botanic Gardens, we went to Chatfield State Park for a picnic lunch before heading home.
